Liberty & Society Student Conference 2018

The Liberty & Society Student Conference will return to Sydney in May 2018 and is a rare opportunity for free thinking students to gather for a weekend of discussion, debate and engaging conversations about topical and societal issues from a classical liberal and libertarian viewpoint.

The conference is an opportunity to meet, debate and network with other like-minded people from across Australia and New Zealand.

We are delighted to announce that this year’s speakers are Dr John Thrasher from Monash University; Professor Jonathan Crowe from Bond University and Andrew Norton, Higher Education expert from The Grattan Institute with our final speaker to be announced shortly.

The conference will take place from 4-6 May 2018, applications close 5pm Friday 6 April 2018. As always, All meals, accommodation and sessions will be covered. CSLS Sponsorship Officer Position

The Curtin Student Law Society (CSLS) is seeking applications for the position of Sponsorship Officer.

The Sponsorship Officer will liaise with sponsors of CSLS events and publications throughout the year to clarify agreement terms, prevent conflicts and build professional relationships. This position will commence on 1 December 2017 for a term of twelve months. The position requires excellent time management and professional communication skills.

The duties of the Sponsorship Officer will include:

·         attending meetings with prospective sponsors in January 2018;

·         corresponding with sponsors to finalise sponsorship agreement terms;

·         contacting sponsors prior to sponsored events and publication release dates to clarify requirements and expectations;

·         attending all sponsored events to greet sponsor representatives; and

·         contacting sponsors after sponsored events to touch base and request feedback.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to build relationships with representatives from top-tier law firms and gain practical experience in negotiation and client liaison skills.

Applicants must be enrolled in a Bachelor of Laws (including double degree or Honours) degree at Curtin University in 2018.

Supreme Court of Western Australia: Free Mediation Information Sessions

The Supreme Court of Western Australia will be providing free mediation information sessions for the public from 1 November 2017.

The information sessions will give people the opportunity to see where mediations are conducted and to become familiar with the process. It’s a chance to ask questions about how mediations operate.

The sessions are open to everyone, including parties, lawyers and students, and will be conducted by a mediation registrar.

They will be held at 1pm on the first Friday of the month (excluding January) on level 8 of the David Malcolm Justice Centre, 28 Barrack St, Perth. Each session will last about one hour.
